I had PC Tools Registry Mechanic, and it was time for the annual renewal. I got as far as the requirement for an automatic debit card annual renewal, and I did not wish to do that. Since I had Norton Anti-Virus already I thought I would add Norton Utilities. Amazon had a good deal on it, so I purchased it. The USPS delivery took longer than what I'm used to, but that's OK. I was surprised to see that the actual software is exactly the same as PC Tools Registry Mechanic. What's up with that? This version does work better than the previous one and I would recommend it to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Norton Utilities 14.5.0.116   November 9, 2009

Symantec's Norton Utilities 14.5.0.116 is, as of this writing, the most current version of this software. WOW... what an improvement and a utility program that can work in the background and the computer doesn't slow down!

Norton did some serious work at getting it's utility programs into the 21st century and it shows it with new graphics and a sleeker look, but with new bells and whistles. I set my Norton Utility program to run in the background as the computer opens to give me an idea if I'm picking up errors from the net and this utility program does catch a lot of the adware and helps keep corruption down to a minimum.

Norton Utilities 14.5.0.116 can now do more than ever before and does it well, so well, in fact, that you can speed up your computer remarkably, just by getting rid of all the internet junk that builds up over time and defragging the registry is a great help... yes the registry along with disk defrag are two features that can help the average user. Along with registry clean-up can bring peace to a shaky computer.

Norton Utilities 14.5.0.116 has these features: Clean your registry, Manage your services, clean your disks, Manage your start-up, Defragment your registry, and Windows defragmenter.

With these features above you have entry windows into some powerful programming working to keep your computer working in tip-top fashion. Each of these windows have sub-categories that you can work to keep you system clean and working smoothly.

Norton has made it's newest utility faster and far more easier to use. Of course, there are utilities with your computer, but some times they can leave the consumer scratching their heads as to what does what on the computer.

Symantec's Norton Utilities 14.5.0.116 has programs not found or are very difficult to run on a standard computer. With this program you can pick and choose what programs you want to run. Norton Utility will let you know if you really want to do what you told it to... with a prompt and you can always go back and get hat you want back, if the need be.

Norton Utilities 14.5.0.116 works seamlessly and works in the background when the computer has some down time, making for efficient computer usage. Along with Norton's Internet Security 2010, these programs can really help organize your data and keep you from getting viruses... or far worse complete computer take over.

I give Symantec's Norton Utilities 14.5.0.116 a full 5 stars for a program that is easy to use, understand, and it's intuitive features, making for fruitful computing.

4 out of 5 stars Norton Utilities 14.5   February 6, 2010

I downloaded a trial version from the Symantec Site, It seems to be a good program. but the trial version, I suppose it wasn't compatible with Windows 7, and once I closed the program I could not
start again. The exe. file failed. Except for this tilt, I think it's a very good program. I will wait for the version 14.5 that I bought and is compatible with Windows 7. The version I downloaded was the 14.0 and I think is only compatible until Vista.

2 out of 5 stars Norton Utils - disk defrag is just a link to what Microsoft provides for defragging   April 20, 2010

I feel cheated! I bought Norton Utilities specifically because I wanted a top quality, reliable disk degramenter. I guess I live in the past, because I used to love the defragmenter that Norton had back about 4 or 5 years ago. And I used to love and admire Norton back in the mid-80's, when they produced DOS products. Their business style was an example to the rest of the vendors in the marketplace.

My, how things have changed. I had checked the Norton site prior to buying, and ran down the list of features that Norton utilities had versus other products they sell. It clearly said it included a disk defragmenter. So, I bought it, installed, and, to my surprise, the disk defrag button is just a link to the Microsoft Disk Defragmenter. That is fraud, in my book. Nowhere in the product description do they tell you this. Nor does it specify it in the Norton website. Talk about bait and switch.

Here's what the product screen says for disk defragmenter:

"Launches the Windows Defragmenter utility designed to analyze and defrag your hard drives."

If I try to return the product, there are expenses and time waste, and I have to pay postage for my return. So, I ended up with a pretty expensive Register Optimizer, plus a few 1/2 baked miscellaneous utilities that duplicate other things I already have, such as items in Norton 360. (I have been getting more and more disenchanted with 360, by the way.)

Anyway, BUYER BEWARE! If you are looking for a disk defrag, forget Norton and Symantec --- it is not the right place to look.
