I've been using BitDefender for over a year now, and hands-down it is the best security software on the market. I've used Norton and other products, but in terms of what BitDefender is able to do, and the speed with which it is able to perform the various functions, there's none better.
Compatible with Windows 7, Vista, or XP, BitDefender Antivirus includes not only anti-virus protection that is routinely updated hourly, but also anti-spyware, encryption, a friewall, file shredder, parental control, identity theft protection, online backup, a gaming and laptop mode and much more.
I've used all of the features included with BitDefender and continue to be amazed by the spectacular speed with which it performs functions such as cleaning your registry, defragmenting your drive, or cleaning up temporary files that might be bogging down your system.
BitDefender has been extremely effective at scanning all of my email and web traffic to block malware, viruses, and other threatening content.
The software's network security manager allows you to manage a network (the software allows you to place it on 3 PCs) from a single location.
If you're debating which anti-virus software to purchase, you can't go wrong with BitDefender. It scored best in a January 2008 proactive virus detection lab test performed by Anti-Malware Test Lab.

I decided to try this out mostly because I've been impressed with how effective the BD Total Security has been on my dad's computer. Plus, I have a really outdated version of McAfee I got through my college.
The user interface has a simple layout and allows you to choose your level of expertise: novice, intermediate, and advance. I did initial setup on the novice setting because I didn't have time to do much else with it. It's easy to change though - just click the tab and change.
This program scans everything (IM, email, internet). The real time scanning hasn't slowed my laptop like other reviewers. I can't tell the difference, and I have a Dell XPS M140 with Intel Processor 1.86 GHz. This software can also be set to laptop mode to spare battery power which is pretty important to me. The hourly updates (run in background) are kinda nice too for some peace of mind just in case.
BD AV 2010 has not disappointed me yet, but I don't expect it to be a longlasting solution - no antivirus software ever is. It works for now, and it's fairly inexpensive. If you want some added features like parental control or PC backup, then you might want to consider the BD Total Security which is pretty much the mamma-jamma package.

Because of the low price, I really wasn't expecting much but I should have. This antivirus program is as good as any I've used, and I think I've tried them all. It's easy to install and right away I noticed the difference on my netbook. There is not nearly as much lag when using the web browser and email. I guess this is because of the real time scanning working better for the netbooks slow processor.
I sometimes find it confusing to set up some virus programs, but this gives you way more options than I've seen on any other software. Beside the standard and advanced modes, there is an in between mode too. But even more impressive is the gamers mode, designed to use less resources and not interfere with the intense resorces needed for games. There is also a laptop mode, designed to use less battery power. I've never seen these kinds of options on any virus program before.
It's hard to know if a virus program is really protecting your computer, especially when you've never had a virus.... it must be working; but I've heard that it's one of the best and it seems to be working for my computers.
I like that it uses less resources than McAfee or some of the others I've used, because I really need those resources on my little netbook, and it's always nice to have them on any computer (while still having the protection you need). I'd recommend it if it were the same price as the others, but because of it's price for the same or better product, I'd say you can't go wrong with this. It's good for three computers, can't beat that!

Bitdefender is yet another security suite no all that disimilar from norton or mcafee. The usual components are in place: registration, setup, virus scan, alerts, mailscan, pop-up blockers, malware identifiers, and the 1 year subscription with the option to upgrade later on as needed.
The software is user friendly, what you see is what you get. It is fully operational in windows vista 32 bit. I use it on my HP desktop. There have not been any slow-downs or freezes and this is a good thing.
I would recommend this product to other consumers who are looking for a get-away from Norton, or Mcafee. What it all comes down to in the end is $. Does this product do for you what the others do? Will it put a dent in your pocket like its competitors? Probably not. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Not to mention, you can install this software on 3 PCs without purchasing another license. That is a plus for users who have family members connected to the home based WiFi.

Bitdefender 2010 is hands down the easiest anti-virus - security software I've ever used on my windows-based XP computers. I have had both of the major brand name suites and several of the free ones. The ones I paid for got way too bloated and slow on my Pentium 4 3.2gHz machine. And when I uninstalled the expensive ones, they absconded with .dlls I happened to need, crippling my machines until I could find and replace the missing files. Nice, huh?
I installed bitdefender 2010 on my oldest machine first. That's the P4, and it's my baby. It runs great for a five-year-old pc. I can record and playback tv, do all kinds of things, as long as I keep it free of resource hogs. Bitdefender is not a resource hog. It runs GREAT and it uninstalled without sabotaging my computer.
Configuration is super easy, and it updates itself every hour, so it keeps you safe. What surprised me is how invisible it was with all the updating. I run SageTv on the old P4, and one of the major brand antivirus programs used to freeze and crash me during recordings or transcodings all the time. Bitdefender does its thing with no noticeable slowdowns even while I'm recording up front and transcoding for iTunes in the background.
According to the online research I did, bitdefender has a slightly higher detection rate than its main competitors, but, knock wood, I haven't had a nasty bug in years, so you couldn't prove that statistic by me. But, in terms of how easy this software is to use, I've never seen a better av program.
