5 out of 5 stars fast, full featured, reliable   August 20, 2006

I bought this after several failed attempts to duplicate my boot partition for backup purposes useing Symantec Partition Magic 8. This product not only did the job quickly, but easier than PM8, and it supports UBS/Firewire drives when using the bootable disk (which PM8 does not).

You can create bootable disks from the downloadable version of this software, and it has a full graphical interface which is easy to use, and worked flawlessly for my needs. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to Use   September 18, 2006

I found that Disk Director Suite worked for expanding the partition on my C: drive without any problems. The interface is all menu driven and very simple to use. I did not try to use the software for anything else and cannot comment on the complaints reported by others on this site. If you only want to expand partitions, as I did, the software worked great and was priced lower than the competitive products.

When I received the software I printed out the PDF manual and learned a great deal just be reading it over completely before trying to do anything. I bought Disk Director because I have used the Acronis True Image8 and True Image10 backup and imaging software and I have been very happy with them and found them to be reliable. Disk Director10 has lived up to my expectations, although I do not have any experience with other programs of this type to compare it to, I found it was extremely easy to partition the two drives on my system. I was pleased to learn that I could easily see exactly where each partition was located on my drive. I created a 21G partition as my C drive and use it for only my OS and my programs. All my data music and photos are on another partition. As a result I can clean up, defrag, and backup my C drive very quickly...under 8 minutes. Also my programs and OS are all operating on the fastest outer tracks of my disk. I also used the OS Selector that is part of the software. I created a system partition on my second hard drive and installed a second copy of windows XP along with Adobe Premiere Elements 3. I use this exclusively for movie editing. Resizing partitions was easy and quick and did not require a reboot. I have been pleased with Disk Director 10 and would recommend it to anyone who needs such software. I'm using a Dell Dimension 8400 Desktop, Pentium4 3GHZ, with 2G of RAM and two 160G SATA drives. Updated Aug. 19,2009...After using my above partitioned system for over two years, I have found that I rarely ever need to defrag my data partitions. This is a benefit I had not expected. I also now use True Image Home which I'm very happy with.Acronis True Image Home 2009 PC Backup & Recovery

5 out of 5 stars Did the one task I needed it to do   September 25, 2008

I wish i give you a more thorough review but I just bought the product for one purpose; to enlarge my C: drive partition.

After an HD failure I had used a disk image to create a C: partition on a new larger HD. I then, without thinking to enlarge the C: partition, created other drives partitions (D: E: etc...) that I soon filled with data. I could not enlarge the C: partition then without removing the other partitions, which I could not afford to do.

There is a way using DOS to move drives around and create space, but I needed a simpler and safer approach. Alas the demo Disk Director version would not do the task, and downloading a licensed version from Acronis cost too much. So I ordered from Amazon, received it 3 days later, ran it, and chose to enlarge the C: partition taking empty space away from another partition. The process took 1hr 20min and worked flawlessly.

What else can I say? It cost a lot of money for a product I will probably just this once, but I needed the task done desperately and Disk Director did it, so 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars It works excellently for what it has to do.   September 27, 2008

Upon reading the countless negative reviews i figured i would toss in my 2 cents. This program works remarkably well for what it has to deal with not to mention it works ten times better than the acclaimed partition magic. If people are upset that their main partition is messed up when they start screwing with it they shouldn't be using this software in the first place. There are hundreds of thousands of different software and hardware combination's that can cause foul ups when working with partitions, master boot record entries and the like. Always test something like this with a secondary hard or move all your important data to a backup before attempting anything. The product is amazing and i have only had one small issue with the os selector but i give it 10 stars if i could. It works well for what designed for so give it a break.
